Dr. Z. F. Udwadia

Dr Zarir F Udwadia is a consultant chest physician at the Hinduja Hospital, and Breach Candy Hospitals.

He has struck the unique balance of a busy clinical practice with internationally acclaimed medical research. He sees over 10,000 patients annually in his extremely busy clinics. Many of these are difficult MDR-TB patients referred by colleagues from across the country. Despite his clinical load, active research projects continue to flourish at his unit at the Hinduja Hospital, many in collaboration with partners from across the globe including NIH.

He has a special interest and expertise in drug resistant tuberculosis, which remains his over-riding passion. He has been invited to lecture on TB in several countries including guest orations before the British Thoracic society, European Respiratory Society, American Thoracic Society, International Union against TB, Gordon conference, American College of Chest Physicians, Harvard School of Public Health, Boston (on 3 occasions) and the Royal Society of Medicine, London.

He has 160 PubMed indexed publications and over 7000 citations to his credit and is co-author of “Principles of Respiratory medicine” published (2011) by Oxford International. He was the sectional-editor for Tuberculosis for the journal Thorax.
