The School of Nursing is recognized by Indian Nursing Council, Maharashtra Nursing Council and MSBPNE (Maharashtra State Board of Nursing and Paramedical Education). Indian Nursing Council Code is: – 1902002. The Course Starts from 1st August every year and the Forms are available from 1st May onwards. General The School of Nursing The B.D. Petit Parsee General Hospital was founded in 1928. As per the Indian Nursing Council Act 1949, our institution is a professional School, which functions within the framework & philosophy of the Indian Nursing Council, Maharashtra Nursing Council & MSBPNE. Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (Revised) is a formal 3½ years Course & Prepare the Nurses who can render quality Nursing care in the Hospital and Community with scientific and holistic approach. We believe in the concepts as laid down by the World Health Organization (WHO) i.e. Health is state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Aim The Aim of the Course is to equip the Nurse with basic and advanced knowledge, which will enable the nursing diagnosis, assessment of health need and prepare healthcare plan and evaluate it and also, develops skill to carry our nursing procedures in an effective manner and to become efficient team member. This course serves as base for the higher studies which will enhance her personal and professional growth to become useful and productive citizen of country.
Objectives On completion of this Course a Nurse would be able to:
  • Give comprehensive nursing care to the patient in the Hospitals & community.
  • Assess the health-care needs of individual family and community.
  • Assess the nursing diagnosis with the sound knowledge.
  • Prepare nursing care plan on priority basis and evaluate it.
  • Carry out the care plan with technical skill in effective manner.
  • Become an efficient team member with good communication skill.
  • Implement the knowledge of various biological and behavioural science in day-to-day practice.
  • Make the patient more independent with supervised self-care programme.
  • Act as a community Teacher and play an important role in giving health education.
  • Manifest keen interest in professional activities and research work.
  • Act as a resourceful person and model for hygienic living and thinking with her ethical behaviour.
  • Understand the national Health goals & work towards the achievement of such goals.
Duration of the Course The Diploma Course in General Nursing and Midwifery is of three years duration. Maximum hours per week per student shall be 36 to 40 including class room instruction and clinical field practice. Out of 52 weeks in each academic year, 4 weeks vacation, one week preparatory leave and one week for examination will be utilized. Rules for Admission
  • Academic Qualification -10+2 passed or its equivalent Qualification with 40% aggregate marks with Science, Arts or Commerce as subject. The students who have passed the examination from other states must produce equivalent certificate from the respective University or Board. – 5% relaxation in marks permitted to SC/ST Students. – ANM Course from any School recognized by Indian Nursing Council after 10 + 2 qualification.
  • Domicile -Minimum 50% students from Maharashtra + balance 50% of students from other States.
  • Personal & Social Fitness – Age limit 17-35 yrs. – Only female candidates (married or unmarried) are eligible for admission – Medical fitness from this institute is mandatory.
  • Selection Criteria Selection of candidate will be purely on merit basis as per the following assessment based criteria. – Oral Interview (20 Marks) – HSC percentage (80 Marks) – Total 100 Marks
General Rules
  • Standard of Passing: Minimum marks of passing are 50% in all subjects. Total marks for each subject in the Maharashtra Nursing Council (MNC) Examination are 100 of which 25% is for internal assessment of theory and 50% for practical.
  • Clinical Experience:  Student will be posted to the wards and in the community Centres under the supervision of the sisters and sister tutors respectively during the course of training.
  • Books & Uniform: The institute will arrange for the supply of the books and the uniforms to the students on payment.
  • Fees: The yearly fee structure for the academic year 2014-15 is as follows:
This payment is required to be made prior to the commencement of each academic year. The first year Admission will be confirmed only after the payment. The fees once paid are not refundable on any account.
  • Hostel: It is mandatory that the student of G.N.M. course stays in the hostel provided. No additional charges are required to me made for the hostel accommodation, water and electricity, etc. The students are required to abide by the rules of the hostel, which may be updated from time to time. Variety in food is provided to the student for which the student will have to pay a subsidized mess fee of Rs. 4,000/- (Rupees Four Thousand Only) every month during the training. The mess charge may be revised at the beginning of each academic year.
  • Vacation: Students are entitled for 30 days annual leave, and may avail 10 days sick leave if necessary and 7 days preparatory leave. Any student exceeding the leave mentioned above will not be allowed to sit for the council examination.
  • Medical Check-up: Candidates will be selected subject to their being certified medically fit by the Institution. Thereafter medical check-up will be carried out whenever need arises.
  • Recreation: Facilities for indoor games, TV, D.V.D. are provided in the hostel. Various competitions are organized at school level and selected candidates are sent for interschool competition. Various festival and national festival are celebrated in the school. Picnic is arranged within Mumbai as a part of extra co‑curricular activity.
  • Security Deposit: Student is required to make an interest free deposit of Rs.10,000/- as caution money at the time of joining the School of Nursing along with the first year tuition fee as stated herein above. The caution money will be refunded to her after the completion of the course subject to recoveries if any from her. In case she leaves the course prior to its completion, the deposit will stand forfeited as and by way of damages for waste of a seat.
  • The Hospital Management is pleased to offer the opportunity of employment after completion of the training as a Junior Staff Nurse on Regular basis at standard salary, besides free food, accommodation, LTA, Ex-Gratia and medical cover. Thus they are given an option of employment in our Hospital on regular basis on the pay scale as applicable to the Nursing Staff.
  • Hostel Rules: Visiting hours for the relatives and friends of the Nursing Students are from 04.30 p.m. to 06.30 p.m. only on Saturday / Sunday & Holidays. The students should meet the visitor in the visiting room provided for the nurses on the ground floor. Visitors are requested to sign and enter their names in the visitor’s book maintained by the school. – Principal, Home Sister or any teaching staff will have the right to inspect any room at any time. – Nursing Students will abide strictly by the rules and regulations of the School Hostel/ Hospital as enforced from time to time. – Any misconduct in the School, Hospital or Hostel is liable to get punishment as per Management decision. – After successful completion of the Course Students will receive Diploma Certificate from Maharashtra Nursing Council (MNC) which is valid throughout India. – After successful completion of the Course Students have to do Registration with MNC which is considered as a licence to practise.
